Hotline: 303-749-8499     E-Mail: Staff

Golden Retriever Freedom Rescue, Inc., is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), all volunteer organization. We have placed over 2000 Golden Retrievers since we were founded in 2001 in permanent, loving homes!

Want to adopt?

  • The placement fee is $125 for senior dogs age 8 years and older; $250 for dogs 7 months through 7 years, 11 months.  Puppies 6 months and under are $300.
  • We require a physically fenced area directly accessible from your home for dogs under 8 years old.
  • Our applicant approval process includes a phone interview and a home visit.  If you live in an area where we are unable to complete a home visit, please accept our apologies.

Want to help save a dog's life?

Become part of the rescue network!   We need people to help transport (local and long distance), help with home visits and  fund raising, etc. Could you provide foster care?  Please head to our volunteer page and fill out this short form and we will be in touch. Also, if you frequently travel down I-70 or I-80 and could pick up a dog or two on your way back to Colorado, please contact us.

Do you need to find a new home for your Golden Retriever or Golden Retriever mix dog?

Spring Weather Tips

Now that the weather is getting warmer, there are certain precautions you need to take with your pup.  If you heed these warnings, you will both be able to enjoy yourselves as we get closer to summertime!
  1. The first thing you should be aware of is as the temps start to climb, more and more of us are opening windows and doors.  Make sure you know where your pup is at all times.
  2. Besides being a time for Spring flowers, it's also a time for spring-cleaning - a time to clean the indoors after being closed up most of Fall and all of Winter!  Please make sure you keep household cleaners and chemmicals out of your pets' reach.  Better yet, buy non-toxic, natural cleaners at your local shop.  Many work just as well and are safer for all members of your household.
  3. Talking about Spring flowers, Spring also brings out the gardener in us.  Some common types of houseplants and outdoor plants and bushes can be poisonous to your pet.  If you have any doubts about the safety of plants on or in your property, contact your local nursery or click here for more information.  Gardening tools can pose a problem with your pets if they are left outside since they can puncture your pets' delicate paws or worse.  Fertilizers and lawnchemicals should be used with caution since their ingestion can cause illness or death.  Please read the manufacturer's warning labels, or once again, use pet-safe products on your lawn.
  4. Once your lawn and plants are taken care of, the next order of business is to cook outdoors.  Great smells coming from grills tempt your pets to come a little too close for comfort.  Make sure you keep your pets away from hot grills.
  5. As Summer continues to approach, so does boating and swim season.  Even though most dogs like to get in the water, some pups don't know how to swim.  You may want to consider purchasing a doggy life-preserver for your spin on the lake or ocean.  Also, try to keep your pup away from fishing areas since fish hooks can become painfully embedded in paws and curious noses.
  6. Lastly, NEVER leave your pet unattended in your car. Temperatures rise exponentially in warm weather and leaving the windows "open a crack" will not only NOT keep the temperature down sufficiently to prevent a heat stroke, but it may even encourage the theft of your car or even worse, of your loved family member!
Keeping these things in mind, we will all be able to enjoy the beautiful weather and nature of our state.

What Gender? What Color?

Think you want a female dog?

Many of our fosters prefer fostering males because they're easier to integrate into our multi-dog homes.  If you're thinking you only want to consider a female dog, please read this!

Help fight Black Dog Syndrome!

Many Golden lovers are not likely aware of how doomed black dogs are when they are brought into the average animal shelter. Even "Black Goldens,” as we call our wonderful mixes—of Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Flatcoat Retriever, or Newfoundland—often suffer such a fate. GRFR is part of the solution. More than 40 of GRFR’s 2010 alums are Black Goldens! Read more.
